About Us
Lex-IS provides legal counsel, instruction, and support to school leaders. Based in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, we serve clients throughout the state and offer school law programming available on request and at regional locations.
Founder and Director David Hostetler has specialized in education law since 1994, teaching, counseling, and directing law programs for school officials. For thirteen years he was the Legal Director for the University of North Carolina Principals' Executive Program, a statewide leadership program.
He is licensed by the North Carolina State Bar and a member of the North Carolina Bar Association and its Education Law Section Executive Council. Mr. Hostetler has presented and published widely in the areas of education, technology and employment law. He received degrees from Duke University (JD, MA), Gordon-Conwell Seminary (MATS), and Westminster College (BA).
Other Lex-IS faculty and associates are veteran school attorneys with extensive experience in counseling and instructing school leaders. These include attorneys with the education law practices of Schwartz & Shaw and Cranfill Sumner & Hartzog, and educational institutions such as Duke University School of Law and the University of North Carolina School of Government.
